Ella Enchanted
by Gail Carson Levine
Don’t ask why I’m bothering to review this. Basically, it’s because I (re)read it for Ennalee’s Twisted Fairy Tales challenge, and I figure I needed to post something about it. And I’ve decided that I’m not going to review it, because I figure that all you guys have read it anyway. And if you haven’t…
***********
I’m sorry. I needed to recover from the shock. Okay, so someone had to revive me because I passed out. I might even have almost died.
Ella Enchanted is one of those books that is just so good that everything else Gail Carson Levine writes is just okay. I’ve read The Two Princesses of Bamarre and Fairest, both of which were good but I didn’t love them. Because they weren’t Ella Enchanted, which is one of the most brilliant and BRILLIANT books ever written.
And if you have already read it, read it again. And again. It’s that good. It’s clever and funny and Ella just all around rocks.
And how many times are they going to change the cover of Ella Enchanted? And the next time they do, can they please make it pretty? I’ve never liked one of the covers, and this new one that I got from the publisher’s site is just horrible. Why on earth did they pick that garish shade of pink? And is it just me, or does that girl look like she’s ten? Ella’s fifteen and sixteen, not ten. That girl on the cover looks more like Miri than Ella.
Eek. Yeah, that is pretty garish.

*sighs* I love this book so much. It truly is brilliant.
And ditto about the cover. It’s pretty awful.

I love this book so much, too.
Although, you’re completely right about the cover…

I hadn’t seen that cover before. Hm. Interesting.

The book I owned had a cover from the movie. I dislike that on a book. So I never did get around to reading it and now it is missing. Maybe the next copy I buy will have a better cover, but I really better get another copy because it sounds so good.

This cover is horrible. I like my paperback cover, it looks nice. Mostly in greens and browns. I think it portrays Ella nicely.
Love this book…
